Although I love my condo, the one area it falls short is in closet space. I've had to employ plenty of closet organization kung fu to get everything in to fit. This weekend I started re-arranging my office and did a little shopping for fall clothes. When I got home from shopping, I realized I didn't have enough room for the new stuff so I started taking my summer clothes out of my closet and preparing them for storage. My master bedroom closet is terribly small, so I usually take the out of season clothes out of my closet. I either donate them to charity or I store them in my guest room closet. I like to edit my closet twice a year and it's usually when the seasons change. I haven't switched out my shoes yet as you can see from the picture, but most of the open toed shoes will be swapped out with either boots or a closed toe option next. I usually only keep between 15-20 pairs of shoes in my closet at one time. My Mom has over 200 pairs of shoes and growing up it was my job to find her shoes whenever she was going out. Just imagine me having to dig under a king bed for the right black pump! I think this is the reason why I edit my closet regularly.

Sadly my closet barely fit a third of my clothes when I first moved in. I had a closet company add the second bar on the left hand side. That simple addition allowed me to separate the tops and bottoms on one side and my dresses now have their own section. Although I also have some storage behind the door and in a big dresser, this is where I most of my in season clothes go. But even adding another bar didn't alleviate all of my problems. I had to throw away all of my hangers and replace them with some lightweight flocked hangers. I was slightly upset at the time because I had just bought 300 hangers about 2 years prior. I currently have black and brass Huggable Hangers, but I've seen less expensive chrome versions at Marshalls and Target. Those hangers were definitely a game changer! They allowed me to store double the amount of clothes and now my clothes rarely fall on the floor because the surface makes clothes cling to the hanger.

Even with a closet this size, I still discover clothes that I haven't worn in awhile so I always try to make sure that most of my favorite items are easily accessible. The different sections allow me to have my clothes stored by type, but I also have them sorted by color, and length. It makes things easier to find. It also lets me know that I don't own a red dress with one glance! In the summer I have a white dress section, but for the most part the colors are consistent throughout the year. For a long time most of my dresses were black. I feel like I look good in vibrant colors so I've been buying more color and I'm determined to buy something army green before this military trend dies. The aversion to color is probably also from childhood! Growing up my Mom always had me in pink or pastel girly clothes. Unfortunately I was a tomboy back then and vowed to never wear those colors when I got older. Now that I've regressed back to my prissy roots, I still don't like certain colors on me, but I'm better than how I used to be. I do feel lucky that my skin-tone allows me the option of wearing a variety of colors, so I plan explore my color options.

My next home will have a large walk-in closet, but until then, a girl has to do, what a girl has to do.
