Find Your Style
I used to love watching the HGTV show "Find Your Style" that was hosted by Karen McAloon. The premise of the show was that she helps each couple redesign a room in their house by first finding out their style based on clues in their current house and then giving them simple steps to follow as they pick items to get the look they want.
Back when I lived in Phoenix, my style was more traditional and very ornate. My design style has evolved and become more modern since I bought my condo. I figured I should give my style a name to help me find items that work with the look and vibe I'm going for. I played around with some combos and decided on Tailored Chic. I define the two words as follows:
tailored - Simple in line or design
chic - Sophistication in dress and manner; elegance
In looking for a picture to describe my style (and look I want), the image of Monique Lhuillier's living room kept coming to mind. It has been a favorite of mine ever since I saw it on the cover of Elle Decor. I like the simple lines of the furniture and the elegance the room exudes. I am also in love with using grays to decorate. Don't get me wrong, I like color, but it tends to grate on me after a while in a house, so I prefer it in small bursts. Also, I work from home and need my place to be a calming haven. Plus this picture makes me smile. I just want to sit down there and chat with friends.
I'm also a believer that your personal style should be shared by your clothes as well as your interiors. This style describes how I like my clothes so I think I'm the right path.
What is your interior design style?
