It should come to no surprise that I ended up renting the navy blue Hervé Léger dress for the Golden Followship Dinner. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have been obsessed with wearing one for awhile. It was a dream come true and I poured all my lady lumps into that dress!  I have tried many knockoffs of this style of dress, and none of them come close to wearing the real thing. This is the type of dress you pass on to your daughter because you know she will be able to wear it 20 years from now.


The day of the event I was in a good mood because I had received a check from my client and was getting a much needed pedicure. My feet were a mess...  I was volunteering for the VIP reception, so I had to be at the hotel at 5 PM.  I was able to get dressed and arrive exactly at 5.  The actual reception didn't start until 6, but they didn't want folks to be on CP time, so we were there early.  By the time it started I wanted to sneak in and grab a martini from the open bar and snack on some crab legs.  The reception started off slow, but by 6:30 it was cracking.  Since I am a member of the Young Professional organization, I forget how much OLDER the actual Urban League members are (50+). I like attending this event because it's always a who's who of Chicago. Jesse Jackson was holding court and even taking pictures... I can't hate on him though because he is still a handsome man and being a groupie doesn't have an age limit!

The security was in effect but grown azz folks were still trying to get in and name drop like this was a club. Some woman came up to the door announcing she worked for a company that bought a 20K table. I rolled my eyes and directed that she talk to someone else. Another observation, no matter the age, black folks are always gonna show up late to a party and want to order 3 drinks and chill. The energy of the reception was cool though. I usually either only go to the dinner or after party, so it was nice to see how the other half lives. The dinner was nice and George Benson performed. Last year Anthony Hamilton performed and 75% of the guests left early. This year folks stayed until after the encore. I guess they finally found an entertainer that resonated with the demographic!  I stayed for the after party also, but that fell flat this year. I think most of the people ran out of steam and the DJ wasn't all that. 

I got almost 8 hours of wear out of the dress and returned it to the store immediately after church. I didn't want myself getting comfortable with having it in my closet!
