Hair Milestone

I have gone exactly 3 months without putting direct heat on my hair! This is a feat for me because I usually get my hair straightened at least once a month. These pictures were taken during the first two months of my heat fast, so I will try to get an updated curly picture so you can see the difference 3 months makes.  I have been wearing my hair in curly styles for a minute and although it was bumpy at first, I definitely have come to embrace the curls and frizz that come along with them.  I thought I would be extra thirsty to get it straightened, but I am kinda indifferent at the moment. I do need my ends trimmed, so a press will be happening sooner than later.

I have learned a few things in the past 3 months. Firstly, my NATURAL hair doesn't like products with protein.  If the ingredients list keratin, wheat, soy, or anything hydrolized, my hair ends up super dry and I start getting breakage.  Second, I can be sexy with curly hair.  At first I felt like a toddler with short, curly hair, but as it started to grow out, I felt more comfortable with it. I was confusing my dislike of short hair with a dislike of curly hair.  Lastly, I have learned to listen closely to what my hair is telling me. My hair is tempermental, and any change can set it off. I am trying to only change one thing at a time so I can figure out what is causing the problem.  I have been fully natural for about 2 years and I think I am finally getting the hang of it.

After I get it straightened this month, I plan to wait until January to get it done again.  I also think it's time to perfect a new hairdo! I tried a bantu knot-out in the past with mixed results. Hopefully I can use what I have learned and continue on the road to healthier hair.
