Storms

Yesterday was full of personal storms for me. I was involved in a fender bender before church and my house was burglarized while I was out watching the Bears game. I think a part of me had had been concerned with the issues my friends were dealing with, but this is the first time things came to my door step.  The car accident was routine. I rear-ended another car at the stop sign. I didn't call the police and just gave the person my insurance. Next time I will call the police BEFORE I get out of my car. I let the other driver convince me to not call:-(  Hopefully, my rates won't skyrocket.

Broken sliding glass door

Yesterday I came home at around 11 pm to find my back sliding glass door was broken and my back door was unlocked. I spazzed out for about 30 seconds debating whether or not I should go inside the house. Common sense kicked in and I called the police. Luckily I live near a main street and the patrol SUV showed up within 2 minutes. The officers entered my house and made sure that no one was hiding in there. When they came back out, I asked if I still had a 52 inch LCD television. I do not:-(  They stole my television and broke my wireless router. It looked like they had gone into my office and tried to steal my computer monitor, but decided to leave that.  They had fished around my closet and found my iPod case, but since my iPod was somewhere else, they just threw the case to the floor.  I have a sinking sensation that it was my neighbors who live in the corner house who are always watching me come and go.

During this time I was trying to call someone to come stay with me because I was scared.  The door in the above picture was all that was between me and the elements. After the police left, another unit was sent to my house to dust for prints. He found nothing but smudges and at that point I called up an emergency board up company to cover up my sliding door.  I think the worst part of last night was being here alone for so long while I waited for the board up people.  I had been calling friends for the last hour and it seemed like no one was answering their phone.  I finally got ahold of Whatshisface (yeah, long story) and he said he would come.  A friend in AZ saw my status on Faceb.ook and decided to give me a call at the exact moment I was guarding my back door with a broom.  He spoke to me until the board up guys came.  As they were boarding up the door, Whatshisface showed up. After it was all said and done, it was 3 am when we left my place.

Boarded up door

I barely slept last night and I came home to file my claims and do some work. I need to get an estimate for my sliding glass door. I would be lying if I said that every noise didn't scare me. I am grateful that I am safe though.
