Second Chances
I received a letter from the State's Attorney's office today about my burglary case in November. At the sentencing earlier this year, the judge told the defendant that if he stayed out of trouble for the next six weeks, he wouldn't have to serve his one year probation sentence. At the time I was very upset with the judge, but I just prayed about it and let it go. I just knew that the kid would be able to fly straight for six weeks. He was 17 and had no prior arrests on his record, so I just figured he would get off scot-free. The letter today said that he was sentenced to probation and my restraining order is still in effect.
I'm now upset that the kid wasted his second chance, and got into some other trouble. I guess he didn't learn his lesson, and I think that is what makes me sad and mad.
